Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup finely diced yellow onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup water or tomato sauce
  • 1 lime, juiced

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add the ground turkey to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned and no longer pink.
  5. Stir in the minced garlic and the pre-mixed seasoning. Cook for 1 minute until the spices are fragrant and toasted.
  6. Pour in the water (or tomato sauce) and lime juice.
  7. Lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the liquid has reduced into a thick, glossy glaze.
