Ingredients:
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 8 thick slices Challah or Brioche bread
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish or a large rimmed sheet pan with melted butter.
- Arrange the 8 thick slices of Challah or Brioche bread in a single layer. Make sure they are snug but not overlapping.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Pour the custard evenly over the bread slices.
- Use a spatula to gently press the bread down. Ensure every corner is fully saturated so you don't end up with dry white spots.
- Place the pan on the center rack of the oven.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are mahogany colored and the centers feel firm to the touch.
- Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before slicing or serving to let the custard finish setting.
